Methodology

  • To produce the Portrait of Canadian workers’ health since 2005, the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS) conducted by Statistics Canada was used.
  • The CCHS is a cross-sectional survey with the primary objective of collecting data in the health field at intra-provincial geographic levels (health regions or combined health regions).
  • For the CCHS, Statistics Canada produces an annual microdata file and a file that combines two years of data at a time (for example, 2007-2008, 2009-2010, etc.). A full survey cycle includes two years of collection, comprasing approximately 130,000 respondents, and provides provincial and regional estimates.
  • We used cycles 3.1 (2005) and 2007-2008 to 2013-2014 surveys of public use microdata files (PUMFs).
